For a madcap farce illustrated with serious formalistic grandeur, I highly recommend King Bidgood’s in the Bathtub by @audreywoodauthor and Don Wood. The royal court is faced with an unexpected and ridiculous quandary: King Bidgood simply refuses to vacate the bath. No matter who puts forth a compelling reason to leave the tub—the Knight calls for a battle, the Queen offers lunch, the Duke proposes to go fishing—the playful monarch simply invites them in for an aquatic version of their desired activity. At last a seemingly insignificant member of the court devises a solution as hilarious as the problem itself. The wife-and-husband author-illustrator team have concocted a rousing piece of comic art, her language offering rollicking rhythm through irresistible repetition, his oil paintings depicting a gorgeous medieval environment whose classical grace is glorious belied by the impish King Bidgood and his hapless courtiers. #king #bath #tub #bathtub #castle #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
