Next up in my Cinderella Sequel Week is this stunning version by David Delamare. Here the famous story plays out against the backdrop of early modern Venice. Instead of a king, a grand duke reigns; instead of horse-drawn carriages on roads, gondolas transport citizens down dreamy canals. The images, viewed often from dramatic angles, boast striking architectural beauty and exquisite period detail. Unusually, Delamare relates the events before the traditional starting point of the tail, including the merchant’s rise to wealth and success, his wife’s untimely death from disease, and his daughter’s departure for boarding school. Soon enough, however, the father remarries and the plot is off on its familiar path. #cinderella #fairy #godmother #fairygodmother #glass #prince #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
