Danger? Check. Suspense? Check. Good triumphing over evil? Check. The Bridge of One Hair? Check. These are just a few of the strange and wonderful elements of Walter de la Mare and Errol Le Cain’s Molly Whuppie. A young girl uses her cunning and bravery to extricate herself and her sisters from the clutches of a bloodthirsty giant. When they come to the house of a king, she negotiates smart matches for all three of them with the princes by brazenly stealing the giant’s magical treasures. De la Mare’s faithful retelling and Le Cain’s eye-popping visual aesthetic make for an unforgettable reading experience. A note for folklore enthusiasts: This fairy tale, first put to print in Joseph Jacobs’ 1890 collection English Fairy Tales, has its roots in the earlier Celtic story Maol a Chliobain, published by John Francis Campbell in Popular Tales of the West Highlands in 1860. #sister #sisters #giant #treasure #treasures #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
