Come and take a peek at Jan Brett’s adaptation of Edward Lear’s The Owl and the Pussycat. To accompany Lear’s whimsical poem, Brett creates a tropical atmosphere, setting the story on a series of Caribbean islands. Throughout the whimsical sea voyage, she illustrates from a perspective just above the water, with the lower part of the page taken up by cutaway drawings revealing fish, turtles, and sharks swimming below the surface. She also includes her signature borders, with coral, shells, and aquatic plants at the bottom and woven wicker with flowers at the top. Sharp-eyed readers will spot a yellow tropical fish swimming along under the pea-green boat, seemingly looking for something…or someone…which may be closer than it realizes. #owl #pussycat #cat #boat #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
