When I was young, I imagined I might one day escape the drudgery of daily life and slip away to a hidden world. Perhaps you did as well. But what if there was already someone waiting for you when you arrived…or something? If this premise intrigues you, then Steven Kellogg’s The Island of the Skog is just the book for you. A plucky troupe of mice decides to flee from the dogs and cats that predate upon them in their home town. They set sail in a little ship and voyage to an island whose population, according to their guidebook, consists of one Skog. Just what is a Skog? When the mice discover enormous footprints, they hatch a plan to combat the mysterious creature. Their foe soon presents itself as a rumpled, shadowy specter...but, it soon emerges, there is more to the Skog than meets the eye. Just who ought to be afraid of whom? The rodent crew and their new neighbor finally realize they have far more in common than they had thought. Kellogg’s oddball story, accentuated with wit and suspense, comes alive in energetic, cross-hatched illustrations. #island #mouse #mice #boat #ship #sea #ocean #sail #sailing #friend #friends #friendship #book #books #childrensbooks #picturebook #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
