Mildred Pitts Walter and Leo and Diane Dillon create a delicate and moving experience in their lyrical story Brother to the Wind. Emeke has always longed to be able to fly. One night, he relays his wish to the powerful, benevolent Good Snake, who gives him an instruction drawing of a large kite. Using baobab bark and bamboo poles, Emeke builds the kite, despite the ridicule of his community (save his loving grandmother). Then, when the wind is just right, he flies like a bird, leaping into the air and gliding safely down from a high mountain on his wondrous kite. Walter’s introspective writing style and the Dillons’ softly colorful illustrations combine for a powerful narrative of magical realism. #brother #wind #snake #animal #animals #kite #fly #flying #wish #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
