The chill in the air in the days before Halloween has me curling up under a nice, warm blanket and reading Fall by Chris Odgers. Young Harvey is devastated to be missing a piece of himself. His disguised friends Jack and Sarah arrive at his door, excited to celebrate All Hallow’s Eve. When they see their friend in low spirits, they resolve to help him recover the piece before they go trick-or-treating that night. However, the search proves more difficult than expected, and it does not come to fruition…until the arrival of a mysterious voice from the clouds. Odgers combines elliptical rhyming quatrains with surreal monochromatic drawings to great effect. He is content to raise more questions than he answers: Just what is Harvey’s missing piece, illustrated literally as a jigsaw cutout in his chest? And what on earth (or elsewhere) are Jack and Sarah, who appear to be skeletons wearing a pumpkin head and a cowboy hat? #fall #autumn #puzzle #piece #missing #skeleton #pumpkin #jackolantern #trickortreat #halloween #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
