Fairy Tale Theme Week has rolled around again, and I’m delighted to be revisiting a story I explored nearly two years ago…get ready for Little Red Riding Hood Week, Part Two! Who better to kick things off than the marvelous Gennady Spirin? His version of the tale takes visual inspiration from the Dutch renaissance, with the eponymous headgear depicted as a peaked bonnet. The wolf cuts a rakish figure in a feathered, wide-brimmed hat and slash-sleeved doublet. A note for folklore enthusiasts: Spirin draws from the Brothers Grimm variant of the tale.
