Is there any such thing as objectivity? That is, when you look at a thing and I look at that thing, do we see the same thing? @brendan_wenzel’s They All Saw a Cat takes a marvelous deep dive into these deceptively deep questions. The story, stripped down to the utmost simplicity, shifts perspectives constantly from page to page. A cat takes a walk, passing by numerous animals as it goes. Each creature perceives the cat differently—the dog sees a miserable, slinking wretch; the mouse sees a hulking, taloned fiend; the fly sees a mosaic of spots; the snake sees a glowing heat signature; the bat sees a splash of echolocated texture. Wenzel pairs his quietly philosophical writing with vividly expressive art executed in a variety of media, including colored pencils, oil pastels, acrylic paint, watercolor, charcoal, marker, and digital technique. Finally, the cat comes upon its own reflection, and here Wenzel leaves readers with the most arcane question of all: what does it see when it looks at itself? #cat #animal #animals #see #sight #vision #perception #perspective #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
